From The Mountain Tops to The Corn Fields: Mack Patrick

Hello There Readers from Around the World!

This is my family, my sister Brandi, my mom Bridget,
me, and my dad Tim. It was great being home for Christmas
this year.
I am Mack Patrick and I am a second-year student at Wartburg Theological Seminary participating in the Iceland/Norway J-Term Immersion. Throughout the trip I will be one of the students who will be sharing their experiences with y'all.

A little introduction to who I am before I head over. Originally I come from the great state of Colorado where I found my home amongst the mountains working at several different camps and being involved in the church. After graduating high school, I headed out East to Fremont, Nebraska and did my undergraduate studies there focusing on Youth and Family Ministry and Computer Science. I enjoyed the small town feel and felt my call to ordained ministry while doing a J-Term in Central America.

After the few weeks I spent in Costa Rica and Nicaragua, I know that ordained ministry was for me and I discovered the Castle in Dubuque and found a new home at Wartburg Theological Seminary. I am currently a second-year student in the M.Div program and a candidate through the Nebraska Synod. I look forward to exploring Iceland and Norway and seeing how this cross-cultural immersion will benefit my ministry.

As I leave this post and resume the packing circus that has taken over my room, I will leave you with a prayer:

O God, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen (ELW)

Iceland & Norway - January 2016

J-Term 2016 is right around the bend - just past Christmas and New Years.  This year marks the fifth group from Wartburg Theological Seminary heading to Iceland for a January-Term Cross-Cultural immersion.
We're delighted to be heading East!  So delighted that we're going to head even further East to hang out in Norway for a few days.
Josh, Sarah, Mack, Katie, Robin, and Kristi (r to l)
Our deep gratitude to the many folks who help make this happen, especially in Iceland Pastor Gunnar Sigurjónsson, Digraneskirkja, and Dr. Arnfríður Guðmundsdóttir, Háskóli Íslands, and in Norway Pastor Sunniva Gylver and Bjørn Lyngroth, Menighetsfakultet, Oslo, and Pastor Øystein Aronsen, Gjerpen Menighet, Skien.
We're looking forward to fellowship with and learning from friends old and new!
More details and introductions to come.
Peace in Christ.
